STEM IV – Conduct Science Technology Engineering and Math Outreach to Minority K-12 Students Using UAS as a Learning Platform (A61_A11L.UAS.53)

The Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Center of Excellence (COE) for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) has supported Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) outreach and education since its inception. In recent years, specific emphasis has been placed on including students from diverse backgrounds to encourage pursuit of aviation and UAS centric career paths. This includes individuals from under-resourced communities, minorities, potential first-generation university seeking students, and other underrepresented demographics within STEM disciplines.

This proposed effort continues both objectives of STEM education and diversity inclusion with two additional ASSURE partner universities, Kansas State University and North Carolina State University. Each of these schools has existing outreach programs but will benefit from and build off the materials generated from previous iterations of FAA funded outreach. Additional curricula will be developed as necessary. This leverage, as well as funding, will enable each school to reach more students and improve the quality of support. Key details of each proposed program are included below.
